Roaming Equipment

KR Rodgers and Zeke Cancio

The term “roaming equipment” is popularly used by gamers in the local multiplayer online battlefield arena. It refers to a “roamer” or someone tasked to navigate a map and assist team members to advance in the game. Drawn by this idea, KR Rodgers and Zeke Cancio present an exhibition that associates life in the city and the objects essential to mobilization. Hence, the exhibition is full of symbols and images that hint at accounts that chronicle one’s commute. From exploring sites and places to modes of survival while in transit, the exhibition relates activities on the road as a game of chance, and all become unwilling participants.

Zeke Cancio (b.1995) curiously experiments with different media through painting, sculpture, and installation as he draws inspiration from natural formations and urban landscapes. His most recent works portray his relationship with the city and the intersections between human resilience and urban existence. Cancio received his BFA (cum laude) in Painting from the  University of the Philippines, Diliman. Apart from his art practice, he also works as an art teacher.

KR Rodgers (b.1994) is a painter-printmaker and draughtsman. He focuses on themes that explore links between identity and memory. Concerned with the experience of his personal space, Rodgers juxtaposes shapes and forms with portraiture and figuration. Employing the use of line as his main tool for communication, he focuses on the stark contrast represented by black and white in his compositions to visually articulate the disparity between certain emotions and sensibilities.
