ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lester Amacio (b.1978, Iloilo) explores static compositions, which create dynamic conceptual focal points in examining binary oppositions as themes in his works. Amacio studied Painting at Virtus Scientia University and Photography at the West Visayas State University. His works were presented at the 2012 edition of VIVA Excon Biennial. Amacio completed an artist residency with the Abu Dhabi Art Hub Residency Program in 2014 and was featured in exhibitions at institutions such as the National Museum of the Philippines, Yuchengco Museum, Ayala Museum, Museo Iloilo, Museo Negrense, and in presentations in Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Italy.

"The Sky Can Wait” features abstract paintings influenced by abstract expressionism and minimalism. The collection draws from the artist's life as a migrant worker who had recently returned home and his experience living in small, enclosed spaces abroad. These limitations and constraints are anchored in Amacio's ordeal as he re-thinks his future and the people he leaves behind every time he sets out to work in a foreign land.
